Open to pianists who wish to learn through collaboration, these coached duos study four hand repertoire. Students are paired by age and ability. Piano duo students participate in the chamber music festival concerts.
BMA offers chamber ensembles for string, wind, brass, and piano players. Groups are determined by age, ability, and instrumentation. Students are expected to participate in festival concerts each semester. Chamber music is a great way for young musicians to work in an intense, collaborative environment with their peers, as well as receive valuable feedback and musical instruction from the group's coach.
Music theory is the study of the structure of music, and how it is composed or written down. Studying theory enhances a student’s progress in playing an instrument, and helps in developing good musicianship skills. Music theory classes are base on the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) program of study, a comprehensive program in music theory from beginning to advanced levels. Instruction also prepares students for formal written testing at each level, if desired, administered by RCM. Our school arranges for students to take these exams when they are ready.
