Founder’s Notes 

 

Welcome to Bellevue Music Academy. Whether you are a student who has just begun your musical journey, or you have already reached an advanced level of study, we invite you to make BMA your musical home.

Bellevue Music Academy is located in downtown Bellevue. Our instructors of the highest excellence is committed to providing students of all ages with the best possible learning experience through offerings that range from private lessons and ensemble coaching to classroom instruction and intensive certificate programs.

BMA combines a warm and supportive atmosphere with the thoroughness of pre-professional training. Our personal, continuing interest in the musical growth of each student is central to the spirit of BMA. BMA students also have the opportunity to hone their performance skills through participation in performance classes, master classes, recitals, and concerts.

Sharon Kim

Sharon Kim is recognized as one of the most versatile and imaginative musicians and among today's most engaging pianists. Her curiosity and wide-ranging interests have taken her in many different directions, forging a unique career and establishing a rare reputation.
   

Ms. Kim started studying the piano at the age of five. She was enrolled as a scholarship student of Onjae Lee at the Ewha Woman's University, and an honors graduate of Sekyung Park. Upon graduation, Ms. Kim moved to the United States to pursue graduate studies at the Manhattan School of Music. During the years of her Masters study, she was the recipient of a Korean American Scholarship Foundation award in recognition of her accomplishments. She received her Masters degree of Music as a student of Zenon Fishbein.

     

Ms. Kim has appeared as a recitalist and a concerto soloist throughout North America and Korea.  She has performed at renowned venues such as Mozart hall, Seoul Arts Center, Torch Center, Yeeum Hall, Chopin Hall, Youngsan Arts Hall, KBS hall in Seoul, Steinway Hall, Yamaha Hall, Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital hall, and the Alice Tully Hall of Lincoln Center in New York. During the concert residing in Lincoln Center, Ms. Kim was the featured soloist of the New York Symphony Orchestra performing Rachmaninoff's 2nd Concerto, which she had successfully performed with great prestige. 

  

Her numerous honors and awards include Washington International Competition, Frinna Awerbuch International Competition and Artists International New York Debut Award Competition. Receiving the grand prize at the Seoul Young Artists Piano Competition allowed her to continue performing with the Seoul Symphony Orchestra. In addition, Ms. Kim was a first place winner of Ewha Solo Music Competition resulting her to be invited as the featured soloist at the Ewha Spring Concert. Ms. Kim, as a guest soloist, was invited to a lecture series,

'The World of the Piano' at the Julliard School formed by musicologist David Dubal. She has performed at numerous festivals including the Bosendorfer Festival and the Vancouver Music Festival where she has worked with noted musicians such as Paul Badura-Skoda, Abbey Simon, Alexander Branginsky, and Tony Han.
   
Ms. Kim is a winner of Steinway Top Teacher Award in recognition of her hard work and dedication to music education in Northwest area. She has been a faculty member of New York Seminary, conducted classes for choir conducting and piano accompaniment.  Ms. Kim also studied orchestral conducting with Vincent La Selva at the Juilliard School and has been active as a music director and conductor of the Arumdaun Youth Orchestra and Rejoice Handbell Choir. She is currently a music director in Korean Peace Presbyterian Church. As a composer, Ms. Kim has composed various genres of music for solo instruments, ensembles and orchestra which is frequently performed and recorded.
